Complex Multi-Phase Fluid Dynamics Study in Micro-Scale Systems

Prof Yonghao Zhang, in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at the University of Strathclyde is using ARCHIE-WeSt to investigate fluid dynamical behavior in lab-on-chip devices and porous media. Due to multiscale nature of these flows, new models and solvers are required to tackle the research challenges. This collaborative research project with Edinburgh University and Heriot-Watt University will help to improve design of droplet-based microfluidic systems and to understand fluid dynamics at pore-scales, important for enhanced oil/gas extraction.
