Photoacustic imaging Photoacustic imaging Dr Shufan Yang, in the School of Engineering at the University of Glasgow is using ARCHIE-WeSt to investigate the ultrasonic features generated by the sudden thermal expansion due to the heating of the surface of the material by the laser pulse. The project is conducted in cooperation with the Institute of Nano Research Optics at the Nanjing University of Technology where the experimental analysis was performed. Non-contact photoacoustic phenomenon is known to present fundamental properties of elastically stiff molecular materials under both tension and compression loading. The project aims at broadening the understanding of the depth limitations optically focused photoacoustic microscopy systems. Also the computational molecular materials modelling and practical implications on the thermomechanical strains and associated elastic stresses will be investigated.
