Potential output of the project:

The primary output of the project will be a new publication, targeting a journal such as ‘Journal of the Royal Society Interface’. This will include both analysis of the mechanical function of the locust ear via the computer simulations, and also analysis of the change in mechanical function depending on insect size and age. The project will support ongoing funding applications, including a planned application to BBSRC in 2014. Finally, the project will indirectly support KE efforts, as a proof-of-concept of the capability to run such COMSOL models/simulations on ARCHIE, including a new project under development with a leading supplier of naval defence systems.
