COMSOL Multiphysics is a finite element design and simulation technology to study physical phenomena and behaviour, and offers a flexible interface in which to seamlessly couple together multiple physics in a single software. We are holding a free workshop at the Kelvin Conference Centre to demonstrate the latest version of COMSOL Multiphysics on 30th May.
This three hour event provides an overview of COMSOL Multiphysics capabilities and functionality enhancements, ending with a hands-on session with the software.

By the end of the workshop attendees will be confident in using COMSOL Multiphysics, enabling them to evaluate the free two week trial on their own simulation needs.

This event is a basic introduction, and therefore appropriate for those who are new to using simulation software.

ARCHIE is currently powered down (Tuesday 14th May) to allow for necessary electrical work.

We expect ARCHIE to be available again around 9am on Wednesday 15th.

A message will be posted here when the machine is available.

ARCHIE Update

The move of ARCHIE has gone very well, and we are currently running test before we make it available for general use.

For example, this morning (Thursday 11th April) we tested the UPS (un-interruptible power supply) by switching off the electricity to the machine room! The good news is it worked perfectly and there was no loss of power.

Here is ARCHIE in its new location:

ARCHIE is now unavailable due to the fact that it will be moving to its new location in the IT services machine room extension starting Monday 18th March. Access to ARCHIE will be granted again on April 1st.

So … as they used to say in a well known British children’s TV programme …

Update 5pm: service restored.

We lost power to the network switches which serve the login nodes (as well as node236-node248). Power has been restored and the login nodes appear to be functioning OK. There is the possibility, however, that this interruption may have affected running jobs. Therefore, please check all your jobs and if you encounter any problems, please let me know.

We appear to have lost access to ARCHIE. It looks like we may have lost power to one of the racks.

International conference in computational biology: June 26-29 2013, Torun, Poland

The conference is organized under the auspices of Society for Bioinformatics in Northern Europe (SocBiN) and this time is co-hosted by the Polish Bioinformatics Society. Previous conferences in this series have typically gathered 100-300 participants, with many excellent high-profile speakers.

MD Training

This is a three day course which will cover the basic knowledge and skills required to run molecular dynamics (MD) simulations using the NAMD package.

The first day session will cover Basic Principles in Molecular Dynamics Theory, the second day session will be dedicated to running MD simulations using NAMD package, whole the third day training will cover visualization of the results using VMD program.

The shutdown of ARCHIE will not take place on Dec 12 & 13 as originally advertised.

Instead ARCHIE will be shut down on Dec 19th (5pm) until Dec 21st (10am).

Apologies for the inconvenience etc. etc.
